Tudor Grange Academy Trust have embarked on an Enthuse-sponsored project aimed at aligning the teaching of mathematics and science while leveraging insights from both subjects' content and pedagogies. A key focus of this endeavour has been on the mechanics strand of A level mathematics and physics, where they've explored shared elements, distinctions, and valuable lessons from each other's instructional approaches.
Chris has taught A level physics for 14 years in four different comprehensive schools. He studied Mechanical Engineering at University of Leeds and still remains passionate about finding out about 'how things work'. Chris describes mechanics as his favourite Physics topics as it offers challenging problems which provide many opportunities to systematically break down and model the fundamentals to develop conceptual understanding.
Aibhenn has taught maths A level for 28 years, and has been a previous head of maths and a maths hub workgroup lead for teaching for mastery for non-specialist teachers. She has also taught maths for a year in a senior high school in Florida as part of the Fullbright exchange. Aibhenn studied chemical engineering at university and has a masters degree in Computer Science. She loves teaching mechanics as it has more real life application of maths which she can highlight so her students can see and feel the maths in action.
