We are delighted to again be hosting our popular National Teachers’ and Advisors’ Conference on Monday 17 June 2024, 9am until 3.30pm.

This free event is an ideal opportunity for all education professionals, from newly qualified teachers to heads of subject and senior leaders, to upskill and bring some of the latest thinking in education into the classroom. We have brought together speakers from across the country and the education sector so that you can get the latest insights from industry experts and innovators, benefit from CPD sessions delivered by A Level subject specialists including teachers and AQA and OCR examiners, and build lasting national networks across the sector.

10.30am Artificial Intelligence in Education

Jonny Richardson, Head of Artificial Intelligence, Gecko
Jonny will be exploring how you can use AI to work more strategically to maximise your efficiency and spend more time with the students who need you most.

11.30am Student Finance Update Ahmar Ehsan, Funding Information Services Account Manager, Student Loans Company
Ahmar will be running through the latest student finance updates and news.

Afternoon Sessions for Teachers

The afternoon sessions run from 1pm until 3.30pm and are dedicated to giving teachers an opportunity to hear from A Level subject specialists from across the country. Bringing invaluable insights from a range of education settings, these specialists will explore the latest thinking on subject delivery, shedding light on the areas of the curriculum which are the most challenging to deliver.

Art and Design - Emily Bott, Nene Park Academy, Meridian Trust

Emily is head of art at Nene Park Academy and trust-wide director of visual art for Meridian Trust with over 20 years experience delivering GCSE and A level Art and Design courses. 

Biology - Sue Madden, AQA

This session will aim to strengthen teacher confidence in supporting students preparing for exams. It will focus on key skills or areas to maximise student achievement. 

Business - Neil James, AQA

This AQA -led session will provide feedback on the exam from the 2023 A-level Business specification. We have selected some key aspects of student performance across the assessment and will provide example responses to explain common weaknesses along with strengths. Together with peer conversation you can gain insight and potential classroom strategies for future cohorts. 

Chemistry - Chris Davies, AQA

This session will aim to strengthen teacher confidence in supporting students preparing for exams. It will focus on 4 or 5 key skills or areas to maximise student achievement.

English Literature - To Be Confirmed

An insightful session led by a subject expert.

Geography - Rachel Mault, Outwood Academies

Rachel is currently head of humanities at Outwood Academy Adwick and associate director of humanities across the Outwood Trust, working to raise standards, teaching and learning and outcome for life chances for children. Her informative session will be informed by her more than 20 years of experience teaching A level Geography across a variety of schools. 

History - Louise Whilde, Outwood Academies

Louise Whilde is an associate director of humanities for Outwood Grange Academies Trust, working to support the 28 Humanities teams across the trust in their drive for continuous improvement. Louise has extensive experience teaching history, having taught the subject across all key stages for over 20 years, and is passionate about both history and teaching and learning. Louise strongly believes in the fundamental power of CPD to empower teachers to do the very best for their students. 

Mathematics and Physics - Chris Priestley and Aibhenn Collins, Tudor Grange Academy

Tudor Grange Academy Trust have embarked on an Enthuse-sponsored project aimed at aligning the teaching  of mathematics and science while leveraging insights from both subjects' content and pedagogies. A key focus of this endeavour has been on the mechanics strand of A level mathematics and physics, where they've explored shared elements, distinctions, and valuable lessons from each other's instructional approaches.

Chris has taught A level physics for 14 years in four different comprehensive schools. He studied Mechanical Engineering at University of Leeds and still remains passionate about finding out about 'how things work'. Chris describes mechanics as his favourite Physics topics as it offers challenging problems which provide many opportunities to systematically break down and model the fundamentals to develop conceptual understanding.

Aibhenn has taught maths A level for 28 years, and has been a previous head of maths and a maths hub workgroup lead for teaching for mastery for non-specialist teachers. She has also taught maths for a year in a senior high school in Florida as part of the Fullbright exchange. Aibhenn studied chemical engineering at university and has a masters degree in Computer Science. She loves teaching mechanics as it has more real life application of maths which she can highlight so her students can see and feel the maths in action.

Physical Education - Ross Howitt

Ross Howitt is an educational consultant with a specialism in physical education. As a published author with numerous educational titles, he provides consultancy to a variety of educational ministries across the world and has worked with Premier League football clubs. Ross brings both this wealth of experience and his sense of humour into sessions which provide informed, user-friendly CPD.

Psychology - Laura Shelley, Lincoln Minster School, United Learning Trust,

Laura has 15 years of experience as a psychology teacher and subject lead. Her passion for pedagogy and innovative teaching methods will inform her insightful session on pedagogy around teaching A level Psychology. The session will particularly focus on delivering the research methods and statistics elements of the course, but may also explore other areas of the curriculum.

Sociology - Tom Genillard, OCR

Tom joined OCR in September 2022 and has been overseeing their redevelopment of A level Sociology as well as developing a new and exciting criminology-based Alterative Academic Qualification. 

Tom's role at OCR is first and foremost to support teachers in delivering OCR qualifications, but he also helps to set up networks, write blogs, record podcasts, and collaborate with lots of universities. 

He was previously a teacher for 11 years, delivering a range of social science subjects and undertaking various roles in teaching and middle pastoral management, leading to his last role as head of human sciences.
