Teaching and Learning - student and laptop

Independent Learning

University study enables you to take greater responsibility for your own learning than you will have experienced previously. Independent study may include reading and preparation for timetabled teaching sessions, follow-up work and wider reading, working on assessment activities, group work or revision. This process will enhance your independence and enable you to develop life-long transferable skills.

Some students may be surprised at how much work they are required to do outside of class. However, you will not be expected to do it all on your own, lecturers and support staff will be on hand to guide you and you are likely to form study groups with fellow students. Furthermore, your course will have an Academic Subject Librarian who will be able to advise on study and library resources.
