This course, leading to the Advanced BASIS Award, examines the agronomy of cereal crop production. It is suitable for BASIS qualified advisers, farmers and farm managers, looking to extend their understanding of cereal agronomy. The course is worth 30 CPD points and can be used to contribute towards BASIS Diploma in Agronomy. Successful candidates are also awarded HE credits that can be used towards completion of the Harper Adams Diploma in Agronomy.
Cereal quality and varietal choice. Crop nutrition & fertiliser regimes. Weed, pest and disease control. Crop storage.
The course is delivered over five days, arranged in two blocks plus one examination day. Delivery is through participatory lectures, exercises and case studies. Contributors include Simon Goodger, Jonathan Holmes, Chris Tolley and Philip Wright.
This year the course is being delivered at Old Leake near Boston, on behalf of the Boston & North Wash Training Group.
The course is assessed by means of a short answer written paper, plus an oral exam.
