Travelling to Lincoln

When planning your journey to the University of Lincoln, there are a range of transport options available depending on your location, budget and preference.

Airport Pick-up
Available from certain airports at certain times of the year

By Air

The city of Lincoln’s central location allows for easy access to a number of domestic and international airports. For students arriving by air, the closest international airports to Lincoln are East Midlands Airport, Manchester Airport, Birmingham Airport and Humberside Airport. Journey times from these airports to Lincoln can vary although typically take between 1 to 2 hours.

For students arriving in the UK via a London airport (Heathrow, Gatwick, London City or Stanstead), journey times typically range from 2.5 to 4 hours.

Whichever transport option you take, we would advise you to book your travel tickets in advance as the cost may be more expensive nearer to the time of travel.

By Rail

Lincoln railway station is 10 minute walk from the University of Lincoln’s city Brayford Pool campus.

There are also frequent rail connections to major cities around the UK including London, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester and Leeds.

Train tickets can be booked via the National Rail website.

By Road

One of the main access roads to the city of Lincoln is via the A1 with intersections at Newark (A46) from the South and near Retford (A57) from the North. The city is 40 miles east of Nottingham on the A46 and 40 miles south of the Humber Bridge on the A15.

By Taxi

Taxi travel from London Gatwick Airport to the University of Lincoln can be a convenient and comfortable choice for students travelling with large amount of luggage although this can also be an expensive option.

Taxi ranks are available outside each terminal at the Airport although we would advise you to pre-book your taxi in advance. If you do not pre-book your taxi, the journey cost can increase.

By Coach

The National Express operates frequent coach services from London Heathrow to most major cities and towns across the UK via London. Taking a National Express Coach can be one of the cheapest ways of travelling to Lincoln.
