CARTOONIST ON CAMPUS
A cartoonist who is a regular favourite in
several national newspapers will make a return visit to the University of
Lincolnshire & Humberside tomorrow to give a free lecture on the art
movement which followed the Mexican Revolution.
Tim Sanders will appear at the Co-op Lecture
Theatre, Lincoln campus, at 7.30pm to give an in-depth talk entitled ‘The
Mexican Muralists’, explaining the new wave of artistic expression which
followed the revolution 1910-1917.
A freelance cartoonist, Tim has had his
drawings printed in national newspapers including the Independent, the Guardian
and the Observer. Earlier in the day he will give a talk to journalism students
about his work with the nationals.
Post-revolution, Mexico was awash with social
change and art played a major part in the reflection of these changes. Striking
murals depicting the new movement were produced around the country as a way of
capturing both the forgotten past and the unknown future.
The visit is being organised by Spanish
lecturer Andy Daglish, who studied for his degree alongside Tim and remained
friends with him after graduating. Like Andy, Tim did a degree in Spanish, and
he spent a year in Mexico as part of his studies.
