STUDENT FILM-MAKER IN LINE FOR PRESTIGIOUS PRIZE

A video made by a Media Production graduate from Newark has been shortlisted for a prestigious Royal Television Society award.

Jon Holmes (23), who graduated from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside this summer, will attend the Royal Television Society (Midland Centre) Awards in Birmingham next month to find out if his work has won the coveted student category prize.

Whatever the result, his video has also been nominated for a prize at the national Royal Television Society Awards ceremony which take place in London next March.

A 30-second clip of John’s video entitled ‘Ted’ will be shown on 14th October at the awards ceremony at Birmingham International Convention Centre, where the hosts will be TV personalities Bob Holness and Les Dennis.

The Midland Centre awards night is the biggest Royal Television Society event outside London and attracts big names from TV soap operas such as Coronation Street and Brookside.

“We’re excited about this particular piece because it really is exceptional,” commented Christine Bellamy, a lecturer in Media Production at the university.

“The director went out on location and tried hard to do different things with his story and characters.

“The director gets the glory but his piece was a team effort - he had a fantastic crew working with him at all levels which is something that we try to encourage at the university.”

Jon, of Station Lane, Farnsfield, near Newark, is currently teaching part-time at Newark College.
