Masterchef star top guest at Riseholme College awards day
gregg wallace TV food critic Gregg Wallace will be showing his support for the future of farming and the countryside when he presents awards at the University of Lincoln’s Riseholme College Awards Ceremony on Friday 2 July.

Gregg, who is best known for co-presenting the BBC show Masterchef, has years of experience in the food sector. He set up his own greengrocery business and actively promotes the use of high quality British seasonal fruit and vegetables through his website Gregg’s Veg.

He said: “The University of Lincoln has a key role to play in encouraging and nurturing the next generation of farmers.

“We need to support our farming communities by buying locally grown produce and re-introducing seasonal habits into our diet. Supermarkets are great if you want to buy a television at 3 o’clock in the morning, but I believe they should be sourcing fresh food produce locally.”

Gregg will be joined at the event by: the University’s vice-chancellor, Professor Mary Stuart; High Sheriff of Lincolnshire, Mr John Godfrey CBE; Dean of the faculty of Agriculture, Food and Animal Sciences, Professor Val Braybrooks; industry sponsors.

Professor Val Braybrooks, who received an MBE earlier this year for services to education and the food industry, said: "This is the highlight of the Further Education academic year where students, their parents, employers, and the FE academic and support teams come together to celebrate the outcome of all the year's hard work.

“Having Gregg Wallace as our guest this year is particularly exciting. Alongside the continued support we receive from the Lincolnshire NFU and the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society, Gregg’s involvement demonstrates the growing contribution the College is making to Lincolnshire's land-based sector."

Courses being awarded on the day include: agriculture and agricultural engineering, horse management, horticulture, animal management, and countryside management.

The event takes place on Friday 2 July at the Epic Centre, Lincolnshire Showground.
