How You Study

This course is delivered face-to-face across seven days and gives you the chance to experience a variety of learning methods. You can start your days with lectures or talks which introduce you to concepts such as sustainability in cinematography, colour grading, and the DIT pipeline, and you can then apply your new knowledge in practical sessions working with an ARRI Alexa cinema camera.

Film screenings take place in the University's own screening room throughout the course, and give you a chance to discuss films with your peers. One session is also led by the film's director of photography, allowing you to learn about their creative choices as you see them.

There will also be opportunities to hear from guest speakers carrying out roles such as camera assistant and gaffer/spark to learn about their careers and what working in industry is really like. This is your chance to ask questions you have always wanted to ask and begin thinking about your own future career.

A whole day of the course is dedicated to a masterclass with a leading cinematographer which culminates in filming with professional actors. You can frame and light your own shot that you then grade in post-production. You will receive a copy of your footage at the end of the course to add to your portfolio of work.
