National Centre for Food Manufacturing

Advancing the Food Industry

The National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM) is a satellite campus of the University of Lincoln, situated in Holbeach in South Lincolnshire. NCFM is leading progress across the food sector, offering part-time study options for food industry employees and partnering with employers to drive innovation.

Our part-time apprenticeships and distance-learning provision are designed to enable employees to study flexibly, acknowledging the demands of working within a fast-moving, dynamic industry. To help the sector innovate, we offer employers access to our outstanding range of specialist facilities, laboratories, and cutting-edge automation.

Meet Our Alumni

Work-based distanced learning alumnus, Shane Rawlings, delivered an inspirational alumni speech at our September graduations. He was already in the world of work when, at the age of 25, he decided he needed a career change to find something he was passionate about. Shane graduated from the University of Lincoln's National Centre for Food Manufacturing in 2021.

The Food Enterprise Zone and Institute of Technology

The NCFM campus is situated on the South Lincolnshire Food Enterprise Zone (FEZ), a specialist business park designed to advance the food-tech and food manufacturing sectors. The £10m NCFM campus includes a Digital Food Manufacturing Technologies Centre, part of the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology, complementing the Food Automation, Robotics and Processing Research Centre on Park Road. The Institute aligns with the national initiative to enhance the employment potential of young people and adults. The programmes have been designed with employers, colleges, and universities to provide the best preparation for workplaces with clear career progression.

At Lincoln, we specifically aim to play a role in building a dynamic, technology-driven economy. To this end, we also have an archive of webinars where we have shared masterclasses, apprenticeship overviews, and thought-provoking lectures from academic experts.
