Introduction

Economics aims to equip students with the tools and frameworks to analyse economic issues, as well as the skills necessary to explore and explain new trends as they emerge in the current dynamic economic environment. Fundamental to the study of the subject is a commitment to fostering respect for good academic practice and standards. We encourage students to develop the confidence to challenge established wisdom.

This first year introduces students to core micro, macro and international economics. There are modules in econometric analysis that aim to help students develop expertise in the statistical techniques used to analyse and interpret economic data.

All Level 1 modules of the BSc (Hons) Economics programme must be successfully completed for the award of the Certificate of Higher Education. The programme has been designed to provide students with the opportunity, upon successful completion, to progress directly into Level 2 of the full degree programme.
