Introduction

The Certificate of Higher Education in History is a one year programme of study that provides students with the chance to develop a solid foundation of historical knowledge and introduces the historical skills required to undertake more advanced work later in the programme. It also provides students with the opportunity to develop a broader set of skills that may prove useful beyond university.

The certificate is structured around core modules, which are designed to provide essential training for undergraduate study in areas such as research methods. Students are challenged to begin to develop their own arguments and to take ownership of their own learning. The programme aims to bring teaching and research together in a creative way, enabling students to develop their skills in generating real knowledge and engaging with problems in the real world such as the environment, cultural difference and identity.

Modules

All Level 1 modules of the BA (Hons) History programme must be successfully completed for the award of the Certificate of Higher Education. The programme has been designed to give students the opportunity, upon completion, to progress directly into Level 2 of the full degree programme.
