Chemistry

The Building Blocks of Life

Chemistry is the study of the way matter acts, interacts, and is transformed, and plays a key role in tackling global challenges such as energy production, health and wellbeing, food security, and the use of natural resources. At Lincoln, we aim to integrate the core chemistry disciplines with advanced topics aligned to the major scientific challenges of the 21st Century.

Science Foundation Year

Our Science Foundation Year is designed to open up an exciting world of opportunities within science, healthcare, or engineering related subjects for students who may not have the standard entry requirements for a degree.

Skills Development and Industry Challenges

Our undergraduate Chemistry courses feature a skills development programme through professional practice modules, including CV writing and interview skills. You can also engage with a series of themed industry challenges with industry partners with multi-national and SME organisations representing the analytical, formulation, pharmaceutical, and energy and environmental sectors.

MChem Placements

We use an innovative full-year industrial placement programme for all students at the final stage of our MChem courses. You can choose to focus on research through a placement in a research group at the University, or complete a full-year placement in industry. There are also opportunities for overseas placements around the world through our International Intern Programme.

Shantae Kaur Rayat

Meet the Graduate

After completing her MChem Forensic Chemistry at Lincoln, Shantae joined pharmaceutical and biotechnology company AstraZeneca as a Clinical Logistics Specialist, where she focuses on optimising clinical manufacturing and supply operations.

If it wasn’t for the University of Lincoln, I would not be working for one of the best global pharmaceutical companies in the world.

Specialist Facilities

Chemistry studets have access to the University’s Joseph Banks Laboratories and Janet Lane-Claypon Building, which offer specialist laboratory and teaching spaces. High-specifcation equipment is available for nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, chromatography, electron microscopy, and X-ray difraction.
