Migration, Citizenship and Communities Research Group

Our Research

The Migration, Citizenship and Communities Research Group (MigRes) is an interdisciplinary community of researchers from across the University working on a variety of aspects of international migration and citizenship. We collaborate in order to create new insight into the many dynamics and challenges of migration, to develop research strengths in these areas, and to share knowledge for the benefit of partner organisations and our communities. As a group, we have areas of focus in:

  • Migrant women and migrant workers – legal protection and social inclusion
  • Migration law – at national and international levels
  • Migration policy – in the UK and transnationally
  • Citizenship and political participation
  • Race, racism, class, and migration
  • Cultural reflections of migration in film and literature
  • Belonging, place, and community – from seaside towns to diasporas

We study migration in Lincolnshire, across the UK, and around the world. Our geographic focus ranges from Skegness to Hong Kong, and our team features research expertise on the European Union, North America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, and East Asia. Group members are currently leading major research projects supported by a variety of funders, including the British Academy and Leverhulme Trust.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Our research supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which are an urgent call for action to tackle some of the world's most pressing problems, now and into the future.

Working With Us

MigRes is interested in collaborating with a range of partners, including local councils and community organisations, national and international policymakers, as well as external researchers and research organisations. Our members bring extensive experience of collaboration to our work. Members are keen to host new doctoral researchers and to support applications for doctoral funding through SENSS (the South and East Network for Social Sciences), our ESRC-funded doctoral training partnership.

If you are interested in working with MigRes, please contact Dr Mike Slaven at mslaven@lincoln.ac.uk.
